My washing machine is leaving black/dark spots on my clothes
My washing machine is leaving black/dark spots on my clothes- this is normally caused by the use of fabric softner and excess detergent.
Most detergents contain enzymes and as with fabric softeners these products are concentrated and require a minimum amount of water to dissolve. If you consistently add too much detergent and softener this builds up in the bottom of the washing machine and traps dirt. Over time this dirty slimy concoction comes though the wash onto your favourite white shirt.
The best form stopping this from occurring, is by following the correct instructions on your washing detergent and softener, using only front loader detergent in front loading washing machines as well as top loading washing machines without an agitator.
To clean your washing machine from this buildup you will need a washing machine/dishwasher “descaler” or you can use Epsom salts or bicarb soda. You fill your washing machine up on a high water level using hot water and allowing the machine to complete a standard wash cycle.
This procedure should be performed every 3-6 months as a preventative measure.
